ABOUT
Abby Keul

I assist designers to lower textile waste and meterage in the design stage of production-grade pattern development.
Projects focus on a range of re-design strategies that increase a pattern's cut layout efficiency using custom-built software plugins for commercial pattern cutting software. Designers lead with their functional and aesthetic constraints.
Currently, I am also implementing new machine learning models to automate 2D and 3D apparel design tools that generate efficient, designer-led options with advanced resource metrics to help shape efficient collections.

Pre-collection efficiency interventions are a great way to prevent costly design decisions that do not enhance the designer's vision. They also educate design teams as they offer impact analyses that detail tradeoffs including anticipated construction time ripple effects.

Micro design decisions, grade rules, and fabric constraints, and cut plans add up to determine cut layout efficiency. I provide a range of efficient combinations, guided by the original pattern and design vision.
